VIDEO TOOL GUIDE
Use direct editing when possible; re-encode when necessary
Video work is more demanding than document or image processing because the browser must decode and often re-encode many frames plus an audio track. Choose the operation first, then check the output container, video codec, audio handling and expected processing time.
Trim a clip when only a time range is needed, combine clips when several sources should play in sequence, and rotate or reverse when the frames themselves must change. Compression and format conversion normally re-encode the video. Creating a GIF removes ordinary audio and can produce a much larger file than an equivalent short MP4, so it is best for brief looping animation.
A filename such as MP4 or MOV describes a container, not necessarily the codecs inside it. Two files with the same extension can therefore behave differently. Large, high-resolution or long videos require more memory and processing time; keep the page open, avoid locking a phone during export and preview both picture and sound before deleting the source.
Frequently asked questions
Why does video conversion take longer than image conversion?
The browser must process a sequence of frames and often an audio stream, then encode and package them into a new downloadable file.
Will a converted video keep its audio?
Most MP4 conversion and transform tools preserve an available audio track, but GIF output is silent. Check the individual tool’s notes before processing.
Why can two MP4 files behave differently?
MP4 is a container. The files may use different video or audio codecs, profiles, frame rates or embedded metadata.
